Analysis of Foreign Coverage of Japan

Each week we carry out analysis of articles in 16 major English-language newspapers around the world on Japan's economy, politics, and businesses. The understanding we gain of foreign media attitudes toward Japan over time is a fundamental resource for all our activities.

Publications surveyed:
Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, BusinessWeek, Time, Fortune, Newsweek, Forbes, Economist, Foreign Affairs, Financial Times, The Times of London, Daily Mail, Asian Wall Street Journal

Survey of Japanese Corporate 9/11 Support Efforts

Following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States, we carried out a survey of our member companies and corporate groups to clarify what steps they were taking in response to the disaster. Reports from 205 companies and 6 corporate organizations were compiled to create a complete picture of Japanese aid for the victims of the attacks.

The survey respondents provided over 3.8 billion yen in all in aid, much of it going to groups like the American Red Cross, the Japanese Red Cross, fire and police departments in New York, and the September 11 Fund. Donors also provided material and equipment needed for rescue operations, collected money from their employees for various funds, and had their employees in the affected areas give blood. The results of the KKC's survey of these support efforts are available on this site.

Social Survey Network

We maintain a survey network of around 4,300 people living in Japan, carrying out quarterly surveys on the economic and social issues of the day. The opinion trends clarified by these surveys are shared with the media for use in their reporting; they are also reflected in the policy proposals of Nippon Keidanren. Each year this network is also tapped to obtain an idea of the degree of trust people are placing in Japan's corporations.
