To everyone affected by the tragic events of September 11:

We at the Keizai Koho Center join the entire world in expressing our shock and sorrow at the airline hijackings and terrorist attacks in the United States. Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives - the brave crews and passengers of the planes, the workers at the World Trade Center and Pentagon, and the police, fire, and emergency medical services personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

This was not an attack directed at America alone. People from around the world were working in the Twin Towers on September 11, and we were all anguished at the images of those proud landmarks in flames and rubble. And we are all committed to responding to these terrible events in whatever ways we can to help the victims and their loved ones in this time of need. We must let them know they are not alone.

The Japanese business community is rising to the occasion. Companies in Japan are acting individually, directly and through their U.S. affiliates, to contribute to relief and recovery efforts. And the Japanese economic community as a whole is organizing a relief fund for survivors of the attacks and families of the victims. In this tightly interconnected world, the distance between Japan and the United States is insignificant, and Japanese firms are reaching out to help the people they see as their own neighbors.

To provide information on how Japan's business community is helping, the KKC has surveyed its corporate members and compiled the results of that survey below. We are proud of the willingness of Japan's companies to extend a helping hand; a brief look over the list will show you some of the many ways in which they are doing so.
